If you are not looking to plunge into the gambling scene of Macau, then look for accommodation either in Taipa or on the Macau Peninsula , the latter being the most developed area and the center of all tourist industry. Hotels in Macau range from 3-stars to luxury 5-stars. However, Macau is not exactly a very cheap place to visit, so even if you look for 3-star hotels, expect to pay at least 3 times as much as you’d pay in mainland China.
In Macau Center, a double room in a 3-star hotel starts at 680 CNY (US$108) per night in mid-May 2012 and you’ll be close to the Barrier Gate. In Taipa, for a similar room expect to pay from 650 CNY (US$103) but you’ll be close to the airport.
