Greece

The capital of Greece, Athens, is, in many ways, the birthplace of Classical Greece and hence the Western Civilization. Flanked by three mountains and spreading over twelve hills, Athens is a very beautiful city to visit.

The important landmarks are concentrated in the areas surrounding Syntagma Square: Plaka and Monastiraki –the charming historical neighborhoods, with cobbled streets and small restaurants, as well as charming Roman ruins- , Omonia - now the students’ district- and Kolonaki. The Acropolis is filled with important ancient buildings and offers some of the best views of the city, especially at dusk.

For those looking for a cultural experience, the best time to visit the capital is in spring and autumn. The summers are scorching hot while the winters are rather windy and wet (it may also snow in Athens, but not often).
