The northernmost of the Ionian Islands, Corfu is located in the Adriatic Sea, east of Italy. Over the years, many powers have fought to dominate the island. Archeological remains of those times can still be seen on the island.
Being blessed with a warm Mediterranean climate, Corfu has something to offer each season, although the majority of travelers arrive here during summer and flock the beaches. Spring is impressive for the beauty of the landscape and the magic of Easter, while autumn is dedicated to the grapes and harvesting them. Winter is filled with tradition, carols and foods specially prepared for Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Corfu Town, the island’s capital, is filled with important landmarks: The Old City (Kerkyra) – a labyrinth of narrow streets -, The Old Citadel – a former Venetian citadel, restored and now housing events-, The New Corfu Fort, Paleokastritsa and Achillion Palace.
