Packing the Basics

If you’re climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, or trekking on any mountain in Africa, it’s important to have all the gear that reflects a variety of different weather situations. Kilimanjaro, in particular, has a variety of ecosystems — rainforest, savanna, moorland, desert, snow — and even though it’s close to the equator, it’s still very cold and the weather is unpredictable, even in the summer months.

Much of the gear, like tents & sleeping mats, can be rented through your climbing company, but it’s important to have the basics.
