With so many tourists flocking to visit Machu Picchu each year, no wonder that there are plenty of options to fly into Peru. The majority of travelers arrive on Lima’s International Airport.
Airports and airlines
Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) is Lima’s international airport, located in the harbor city of Callao. Lima is very well connected to most cities in South America and it receives regular flights from North American as well (Miami, Atlanta, Newark, Huston in US and Toronto in Canada). It also receives daily flights from Europe (Amsterdam and Madrid).
The airlines flying into Lima’s international airport include: Delta Airlines, Air Canada, KLM, Iberia, Continental Airlines, American Airlines, Spirit Airlines, TACA Peru.
To get from the airport to the hotel, it’s best to use the Urbanito Airport Shuttle Service, which offers door-to-door transport from the airport to the hotel.
You can also take the Green Taxi, which has a station in the airport. But be aware of the possible scams and don’t use the taxis located outside the airport.
How to get a cheap ticket to Peru
With so many airlines flying into Peru it’s not that hard to find discounted tickets to Lima. Check the airlines’ websites periodically to spot the sales offered.
Since the high season for visiting Machu Picchu is between May and June and July and August are the peak months to visit the highlands, you can avoid the high traffic (and rather high fares) but flying outside these months.
If you have a bit of flexibility, try flying mid-week as opposed to the weekend. The mid-week flights are always less crowded and cheaper.
