The capital of Portugal, Lisbon, is one of the few Western European cities that face the ocean and uses water as an element that defines the city. The easy going charm, the lovely beaches, the unique architecture and the mild climate makes Lisbon a very interesting travel destination. Whether you plan to stay in a cheap hotel or look for luxury facilities, this city has them all.
If you come to Lisbon for sightseeing, the best place to look for accommodation is along the route of tram #28. Do remember that Lisbon is a hilly city so if you don’t plan to hike, make sure to find accommodation in an area where exercise isn’t in the program. Finding decent accommodation in the city center shouldn’t be hard even if you don’t book in advance.
Consider staying in the Bairro Alto which is located on a hill and offers great nightlife. Baixa (the downtown) is also a good choice but so is Chiado (the shopping district). But regardless of where you plan to stay, Lisbon offers great transportation options so it won’t be hard to get from the hotel to the sights (and vice-versa).
Prices for hotels in Lisbon can range anywhere from €63 to €200 per night for a double room, depending on location and class (eg: luxury hotels in Lisbon). It is possible to get something cheaper but most likely you’ll have to settle for a hostel or bed & breakfast.
